October News from Bateman Civil Survey Company

As the leaves begin to change, our commitment to serving clients and moving projects forward remains constant. Across our offices, teams are collaborating, innovating, and building momentum that continues to drive BCSC forward. Check out some of this month's highlights and accomplishments!

Project/Client Spotlight

BCSC recently supported Taylor Morrison on the Gracewood Subdivision Amenity Center in southwest Wake County, by providing the conceptual layout for the community's central amenity space. Our team developed a site plan that anchors the amenity area around a central clubhouse, connecting a parking lot to two pool zones, an upper rectangular pool and a lower kidney-shaped pool with a wading area, each ringed by lounge seating and shaded cabanas. The layout also incorporates a sand-floored playground, a fenced court facility with three tennis or pickleball courts, and paved walkways threading through heavily landscaped grounds, creating a walkable hub for recreation and neighborhood connection.

Land Survey Industry Updates

The surveying profession continues to evolve through advancements in drone mapping, LiDAR, AI-driven geospatial solutions, and the implementation of the 2026 ALTA/NSPS standards. Workforce development remains a key industry focus as organizations work to attract the next generation of surveyors.

This month, professionals from around the world will gather at INTERGEO 2026 to explore the latest innovations shaping the future of surveying and geospatial technology.

BCSC Employee Spotlights

This month, we're celebrating a major professional achievement for Christopher Myers, PLS, and Brandon Nelson, PLS, who have officially earned their Professional Land Surveyor licenses. Their accomplishment strengthens the depth of expertise within our team and highlights BCSC's continued investment in professional growth and excellence. Congratulations to both on this exciting milestone!

Starting off strong, BCSC wants to congratulate Bradley Brown and Cam Barnes from our Wilmington office for passing their CST Level 1 Exam! We can't wait to see what you accomplish next.

Patrick Newtown of our Apex Construction team has been instrumental in the success of BCSC’s Utility As-Built program, helping develop and standardize processes that ensure consistent, high-quality deliverables for engineers and municipalities. His dedication to quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement has earned positive feedback from clients who value the organization and reliability of our as-built data. Patrick’s positive attitude, problem-solving mindset, and willingness to help others make him a valuable part of the BCSC team and our continued success!

Event Spotlight

Our engineering department hosted a lunch-and-learn on segmental retaining walls with Brian Mondschein of Sitescapes, LLC. The session covered wall design options from gravity to geogrid-reinforced systems, with a focus on value engineering, including how hybrid designs have delivered major cost savings over traditional CIP walls in places like Durham and Holly Springs.

Last month we welcomed Zack Tomlin, PE, for a session on leadership and employee engagement. With over 20 years in the AEC industry, Zack explored how leadership shapes the conditions our teams work in, and asked: What can leaders do to create the conditions under which their teams consistently do their best work?

BCSC was proud to serve as a golf cart sponsor for the Fall Golf Tournament at Hasentree on Monday, September 21st. Our team helped support the event by sponsoring the golf carts that kept players moving across the course throughout the morning, with tee time set for 8:00 AM at Hasentree's Village Club Drive location in Wake Forest. The tournament brought together sponsors and players for a day of golf on the course's 18 holes, with the event wrapping up between 1:00 and 2:00 PM. We're grateful for the opportunity to support this community event and look forward to participating again!

BCSC was proud to participate in the inaugural season of the League of Builders, a golf league connecting consultants, vendors, contractors, and builders across the Triangle. Timothy Grissinger and Kenric Barnes, PE represented Bateman Civil Survey Company on Team 1 throughout the season, which opened with Round 1 on May 22nd and ran six rounds through September 18th. The season wrapped up with a single-elimination playoff bracket, quarterfinals September 19th–October 2nd, semifinals October 3rd–16th, and the Championship Round on October 30th. We're grateful for the opportunity to be part of this new league's first season and look forward to the relationships and rounds ahead!

Thank you for joining us for another month of BCSC updates! As we head into the final months of the year, we remain focused on delivering quality work, strengthening relationships, and building on the momentum of a productive season. We appreciate your support and can’t wait to share what’s ahead in next month’s newsletter.
