March 2026: BCSC Newsletter

March is rolling in with longer days, busy job sites, and plenty of exciting updates! Our teams are making major strides across the board, and this month’s newsletter captures that energy as we head into one of our busiest seasons of the year.

This month, we’re recognizing two team members who continually go above and beyond. Matthew Lockemy , Apex Crew Chief, has shown exceptional dedication, training new Raleigh survey staff while managing his own demanding workload. Unlike typical construction or houseline jobs, Matthew tackles tough, overgrown sites where a bush axe and machete are part of the daily toolkit, and he handles it all with consistency and hard work that deserves real appreciation. We’re also spotlighting Zachary Acevedo from Apex, whose reliable IT support keeps our teams running smoothly. Whether troubleshooting issues or proactively finding solutions, Zach plays a key role in keeping the company moving forward. Together, Matthew and Zach embody the commitment and teamwork that strengthen BCSC every day. Lastly, BCSC wants to congratulate Isaac Purseglove on passing his CST 1 exam. Congratulations Isaac! We can’t wait to see what’s in store for you.

Kristen Gibson and Margot Phaneuf represented BCSC at Wake Tech’s Spring 2026 Engineering & Design Career Fair on February 11th, connecting with students from programs including Civil Engineering Technology, Geomatics, Architectural Technology, and more. The event brought together emerging talent across multiple technical fields, and Kristen and Margot spent the day answering questions, sharing insights about careers in civil engineering and land surveying, and highlighting the opportunities available at BCSC.

Josh Davidson, PLS, Sean Hein, PLS, PE, Carl Corpus, and Anthony Schmidt attended the North Carolina Society of Surveyors Annual Conference this month, taking part in valuable training, networking, and industry development opportunities. It was a great chance to stay current with evolving standards and technology shaping the surveying profession.

Bateman Civil Survey Company is proud to support the Norris Subdivision, a major community development led by D.R. Horton in Johnston County. Our team contributed to extensive infrastructure design supporting the future 169‑lot neighborhood, including public water mains, sanitary sewer gravity and force mains, a regional pump station, new streets and sidewalks, and comprehensive stormwater management systems. We also assisted with off‑site roadway improvements along NCDOT‑maintained Norris Road, helping ensure the project meets current municipal and state standards. We appreciate D.R. Horton for partnering with us on this large‑scale development and trusting our team to help bring this new community to life.

The surveying industry is entering March 2026 with a stronger push toward high‑efficiency data capture and smarter geospatial workflows. Multi‑sensor drone platforms, combining LiDAR, photogrammetry, thermal, and multispectral imaging, are becoming more common, allowing surveyors to collect richer datasets in fewer flights. At the same time, GeoAI and other AI‑driven tools are moving into everyday practice, automating feature extraction, enhancing spatial analytics, and supporting predictive decision‑making across utilities and infrastructure work. With these technologies advancing quickly and industry standards evolving alongside them, surveyors are well‑positioned for a highly innovative spring.
